It just so happens that this page was made specifically to provide curious souls like yourself with information on the production and manufacturing sectors of Reno's economy. It's a match made in heaven! So sit back and be enlightened.

Gaming Machines

Tourism isn't all about tankless water heaters to bring hot water to ritzy spas. It's also about gambling. As you would expect from a city that is billed as a little Las Vegas and a gambling destination for tourists from Northern California, it probably won't surprise you to learn that the headquarters of some pretty big gaming companies are here in Reno. Harrah's Entertainment is primarily a company that manages resorts and casinos, while International Game Technology is the firm with the factories that turn out the slot machines that are so ubiquitous on casino floors.

Electronics

Gaming machines aren't the only kinds of electronics produced in Reno's factories, however. While no large industrial products like strapping machinery are made here, there are a number of companies specializing in appliances and household electronics like microwaves. Bally Technologies, a local firm, produces some slot machines, but it also makes pinball games like you see in arcades all across North America. Meanwhile, PC-Doctor develops and distributes diagnostic software for home computers.

Food and Edibles

All the gaming that goes on here can sometimes overshadow the fact that outside of the city center, Reno can be very rural. There are still farms here, which are the original factories. They don't use as many automated machines or produce lead-lined drywall, they raise cattle, both for meat and milk, as well as vegetables and grain that is turned into processed food for both humans and pets in city factories.

Other Products

Outside of the fields of electronics and food there are other products made in Reno that are harder to classify. You've also got stuff like the cement you so often see churning in the mixing bays of industrial vehicles and little handheld devices that print off labels for lockers or office equipment. There's also suntan lotion (which makes sense given Reno's climate) and valves used in plumbing, chemistry, and other situations in which liquids must travel.
